The California Wine Institute is the only US organisation advocating for wine at the state, federal and international levels. We bring together the resources of over 1,000 wineries and affiliated businesses to support legislative and regulatory advocacy, international market development, media relations, scientific research and education programs that benefit the entire California wine industry. Its International Department's Export Program aims to increase exports by generic promotion of California wines globally.

The Wine Institute’s experienced team of international representatives provides deep, boots-on-the-ground insights into export markets around the world. Their knowledge and support help participants in the California Wine Export Program navigate the intricacies of entering and doing business in international markets while expanding the reach of California wines worldwide.
In the UK, California Wines supports the growth and promotion of California wines through a comprehensive programme of trade and consumer initiatives. For the trade, the California Wines Kickstarter Program provides a unique support package that enables importers to promote their California wine portfolios through events, in-market winemaker masterclasses and dinners, in-store and online marketing activities and buyer trips to California. In addition, California Wines delivers a range of educational masterclasses, seminars, and tastings for buyers, importers, sommeliers, and wine writers, helping to increase sales, awareness and understanding of California wines across the industry.
Capstone California is the dedicated California wine certification and education program launched by the California Wine Institute in 2021. It is a fantastic up-to-date information resource on California wine, developed by an outside team of top industry professionals, educators, and authors.
Additionally, many of the state’s wineries contributed to the first-of-its kind content. Trade and consumers alike can explore interactive maps, study guides, and teaching materials.
The Capstone California certification features four progressive levels, from novice to expert, covering history, geography, climate, viticulture, aging, wine laws, classifications, producers, vintages, and more. This self-paced online program is also available through top wine educators and schools worldwide, incorporating guided tastings for a deeper, hands-on learning experience.
